Vaping and Its Solid Advantage Over Smoking
Run a search on the term ‘vaping’ online and you might get the impression that it’s fraught with risks. It’s really not, as long as you are responsible enough to purchase a vaporizer or e-cigarette from a quality supplier. Right off the bat, e-cigarettes are safer than smoking because they don’t contain tobacco.
We are all aware that burnt tobacco, when inhaled or chewed, is incredibly damaging to health. Take out the tobacco and the combustion and the natural effect is risk reduction. But let’s be honest: vaping is not completely harmless, but what is? The most critical point we’re making here is that vaping is safer by a mile than smoking.
In UK, a broad consensus that several health organisations have endorsed since 2016 actually urges smokers to shift to vaping. More recently, more organizations, such as the Royal College of General Practitioners and the British Medical Association, have issued new reports that refer to e-cigarettes as a good alternative for smokers who would like to quit.
Though e-cigarettes remain banned in a lot of countries, this is now slowly but surely changing. Just last year, there was a complete reversal of New Zealand’s position on vaping, putting in new policies that are more in favor of the practice in lieu of smoking. Canada is also in the process of legalizing e-cigarettes, though details pertaining to this are still being ironed out.
A key reason for caution in some countries is the fear that vaping will become a path to smoking, particularly in youngsters. There is no proof that trying an e-cigarette leads to regular smoking, and several other factors can explain this, such as the open fact that tobacco is available everywhere.
Results of the globe’s biggest study on vaping and young people – more than 60,000 teenagers involved – were published in 2017. It discovered that though experimentation with e-cigarettes did occur, consistent use by teens who had had a regular cigarette remained extremely low, at under 1%. Meanwhile, smoking rates among the youth are going down at an encouraging pace. If vaping did cause smoking, these trends would go the other way.
So, how should the average smoker take all this misinformation about the e-cigarettes posing certain risks? If you are a smoker, the best step you can take to benefit your health and that of people around you is to quit smoking. If you decide to vape in order to stop smoking, that’s fantastic, and nobody should criticize you for making that decision. Because regardless of what the critics claim (and as we have also said earlier), vaping is instantly better than smoking, just for the fact that it contains no tobacco.
